The store is never open, and I just recently spent a lot of money with Tom. I asked for a specific product he quietly put some thing else in my bag. I didn’t realize till I got home, but I have made several attempts to reach out to no avail. I’ve come back to the store to get my money in return and again the store is not open. I love this hobby, more than anything. Being taken advantage of, in this way isn’t gonna stop me from building trains, but is bad for the model railroading community as a whole. I was told I was getting one thing and an expired retired unwarrantable. Product was put in my bag quietly while I browsed the rest of the store picking up just short of $500 of other equipment and rolling stock. I hope I receive a call. Otherwise I will have to file a police report and have the fraudulent transaction removed from my account. I really want to believe that this was not intentional, but the way this was done was verry shady. All I can say is be careful. If he would do this to a disabled veteran, what does he do to the women and children who know far less about this hobby then I.

I dropped my train engine to Tom’s for repair over a year ago in 2022. It is now 3/24 and I have attempted over 25 time to get it back with or without it being fixed and when I called 3/6/24 he hung up on me. The store is closed a lot and he does not respond to voice mail either. I am writing this as it was my husband Michael’s train and he has been more than patient trying to get the engine back. Very poor customer service and very unethical. Would NOT recommend doing business with Tom’s Trains.

I wrote this review on Yelp and I saw some similar reviews on here that were posted recently - I wanted to post this here to further dissuade people from patronizing this terrible business: My absolute worst customer experience ever was at Tom's Trains of Connecticut. I took one of my model trains there to be fixed in March of 2018, and after a week or so we got a call that it was fixed and drove over to pick it up. I brought it out of the store, but in the car I realized that it was still missing both of its couplers that had fallen off and that I had asked Tom's Trains to fix. So I brought it back into the store, and Tom said he'd get it repaired free of charge. After 3 weeks or so without a peep from the train store, I called Tom's Trains, and Tom said that his associate had taken it home to work on and that it would be ready by Thursday. I called him Thursday and he had the same story. I would call him every weekend that I had the chance to drive to Hartford, but he always said that it would be ready within the next week. So I called him up one Saturday in June of 2018, 3 months after I had brought the train to the store, and he picked up the phone in a very bad and very offensive Indian accent, saying that the store I was calling was not Tom's Trains but was Kwik-E-Mart. This made me very annoyed with Tom because after holding my model train for three months he was rude and acted as if he didn't even want our patronage to his store. He finally gave us a call on August 4th saying that the model train was ready, and after five months and one day I reluctantly made my way back to Tom's Trains of Connecticut where I picked up my train and where Tom was for some reason pissed off at me. This concluded the worst customer experience I had ever had in my life. I walked away seriously wondering why someone with a completely non-digitized model train store would ever treat their customers so badly when they know that their customers could be easily taken away from them by the internet.

Small store with a lot of N Scale tucked away in boxes. You REALLY have to sift through stuff to see if there is anything you like. Owner is friendly and doesn't pressure you to buy anything. Good prices as well

Tom's is a great place to go if you like the experience of the hunt. You never know what you'll find. He has a great selection of N scale which can be hard to find in this part of New England and also stocks lots of HO too. Prices are great as well. Always a pleasure.
