Customer reviews present a mixed view of the store. While some appreciate its long-standing presence and nostalgic charm, others express concerns about the quality of customer service. Some reviews mention that the store has changed over time, with a shift from a more "eclectic" and "adventurous" atmosphere to a cleaner and more organized setup. While organization is typically a positive, some customers feel that the change has diminished the store's unique appeal.

Here are some key points from customer reviews:

  • Long-Standing Local Business: Little Things Toy Store has been a fixture in Park Slope for decades.
  • Nostalgic Appeal: Some customers cherish the store for its nostalgic connection to their childhood.
  • Changes Over Time: The store's atmosphere has evolved, with a shift towards a more organized, but less "adventurous" feel.
  • Inconsistent Customer Service: Several reviews highlight negative experiences with a particular staff member, citing dismissive and condescending behavior.
  • Concerns about Bias: One reviewer alleges that the staff member treats customers differently based on personal biases.
  • Negative Feelings: Some customers have expressed feeling cheated or unwelcome after shopping at the store.

While Little Things Toy Store holds a place in the hearts of many long-time residents, potential customers should be aware of the reported inconsistencies in customer service. If you're looking for a "toy store near me" and value a local, long-standing establishment, Little Things Toy Store might be worth a visit. However, be prepared for potentially mixed experiences based on the customer feedback.

This place has been in business for years. It isn’t as good as it used to be. There is a short haired woman who works there who has awful customer service, she is dismissive, has a condescending, unprofessional attitude, and from my observation, this woman is selective with how she treats customers based on whatever biases she may have. I recall feeling cheated after I spent money there. Giving the local business the benefit of the doubt, I’ve gone back to the shop and had the same cold unwelcoming experience. I since have decided not to spend a nickel in Little Things.

I miss the times of old when they have the two stores and it was super eclectic. Much cleaner and more organized but def doesn’t feel like an adventure every time you enter. Little Things has been a parkslope staple for decades and it’s great to be able to share the place that was so magical when we were kids with our own kiddos.

Have been supporting this store for years but am echoing other recent reviewers about being treated with condescension and disdain by the older women who worked here. They asked us to tell them exactly what we were looking for at least half a dozen times in the 10 minutes we were in there. Scolding us for touching anything and telling me I needed to leave my dry umbrella at the door. There’s a difference between offering assistance and allowing customers to browse and demanding to know what we are specially looking for. Maybe I don’t know yet! What an unnecessarily unpleasant experience. These two women should go work at the DMV instead of a toy store.

The people that work here are unnecessarily condescending and rude. I don’t think they even like children. One of the old women that works here follows people around the store like a hateful grim reaper skeleton. The sister store for older kids across the street is exponentially better and nicer. Like night and day.

Wonderland find in Park Slope. I wandered into the flagship and met Mitch who was very welcoming and informative. Impressive selection and variety of toys, games, puzzles, etc. — especially for the shop size. I have lots of little ones in my world so Mitch suggested I check out their newborn - age 5 shop across the street. It was also very cute and Ralph was helpful and funny. Big bonus for me: Surprisingly broad range of skin colors and hair textures in both dolls and book protagonists. Finding representation for kids should not be a notable thing in 2024, but it totally is. Great service and warm vibe. I’ll be a repeat customer.
